Shandon Chapel

I have come to love exploring and finding new places that I have not seen before. I live in California. Usually, when people hear the word California they have a tendency to think of Los Angeles, Hollywood, or Big City buildings with a lot of traffic. But believe it or not there are areas of California that are quite remote.

You can find this Chapel in the hills of California. The background of why the chapel was built is such a cool story. It was built by a man named Judge William Clark. He was also known as the man who had the President’s ear. That President was President Ronald Reagan. William Clark was flying his personal private plane when it ended up crashing. He survived the plane crash. He wanted to show God gratitude for saving his life. So he built a chapel on his own property for the community of Shandon in California. was dedicated on Thanksgiving.

It is such an intriguing story. I would have never guessed that in the middle of the hills off of a main road there would be a Chapel. Let alone, one that is so unique and much like a beacon on a hill. After doing some research to find this chapel I found that it was in a little town called Shandon. Well, I had to see this amazing place for myself. So I set out to find it. I must say that if I did not have my GPS to follow to find the location I would have missed it. It was like a hidden gem. Unless you were looking for it you would not necessarily see it. It is right in an area where there are only a couple of houses. It was and is stunning to the eye. I pulled my car up to the parking lot to get a closer look.

The path of to the Chapel is steep but well worth the climb. There is a well tended vineyard on both sides of the path. I have never seen grapes like these. So rich in color and looked absolutely delicious. I promise you although I would have liked to have tasted them I withheld from doing so.

Reaching the top of the path and seeing the Chapel up close is quite a cool experience. The Cross with rays coming out of it was a nice touch. And the bells well, I just love bells. I love looking at them and most of all I love hearing the beautiful sounds they make.

On the side of the chapel is a prayer that was written by Saint Francis Of Assisi and well the words speak for themselves.

Although, I was not able to go into the chapel due to visiting it during the week it was well worth the trip.

I hope that you have enjoyed this little adventure off of the beaten path.

Until Next Time!!!
